I added two new koi to my pond, a Showa quite similar to this one:

and a lemon and white Yamabuki Hariwake Doitsu like this one:

None of my fish are anything like show quality, but they make a pretty mix.
While I was sitting there admiring them I heard a hummingbird very close by me. My fish-watching spot is sitting on the edge of a brick wall that edges the flowerbed, which is currently overgrown with Mexican Sage, which the hummingbirds really like. As I sat there among the flowers, literally, a little dull green hummer with a small patch of purplish red under its throat buzzed closer and closer to me, until it was about five inches from my nose, looking me right in the eye and making those little "Piss off, you. These are my flowers" sound. I held my ground, though wondering suddenly if they ever attack with those long pointy beaks. It only lasted a few moments, but it made my day.
