The first episode of the second season aired last weekend. I have a confession: I want to love Torchwood. I really do. I watch each episode faithfully.
But something is missing. I always feel like I'm being told who each character is, rather than seeing any logical development.
I want to love Capt. Jack, but I still don't. I love damaged characters with tragic pasts. I eat that stuff up. And male on male snogging? Hooray! But it's not enough, and seems forced. "Hey, look! Two guys kissing!" Why? Where is this going, beyond pushing the envelop of what can be shown on a regular basis? Jack's bi. Great. We get it. Now, what does that mean to the character in this 21st century world? If Dr. Who kisses a guy, it means something. If Jack does it, he's just scratching an itch.
I feel like I'm watching a cast of of well dressed concepts, rather than characters I can believe in.
Discuss. ;-)
