All is Not Well With the Flewellings

On Thurday Doug came down with a sudden case of pancreatitis, gallstones, fever and general awfulness. He's been in the hospital for the past three days, drugged up and miserable. I am living the greater part of each day in the chair beside his bed during the day, trying to write, study, and generally be productive while he sleeps, plus helping out when the nurses aren't around and dealing with doctors. At night I sleep on a fold out chair beside his bed. So far his illness is not life threatening but he is sicker than I have ever seen him. Matt and Tim are being a huge help, taking care of the dogs and house and running errands for me. Not fun!

I'm so sorry to hear that Doug is so ill. That is very hard. I hope he has a quick and complete recovery.

My cat had pancreatitis a few years ago. The vet and internet research agreed that it was excruciating and not much to be done about it. But I was taking adrenal glandulars (bovine adrenal freeze dried, powdered and sold in the health food stores) for my adrenal fatigue. Next to it on the shelf was a pancreas glandular, which I fed to the cat. He stopped having the monthly bouts of pain and vomiting, and his bloodwork was perfect 6 months later.

Pancreatic replacement therapy works great for chronic pancreatitis. Unfortunately, it isn't much use for acute pancreatitis, especially obstructive pancreatitis, which is what it sounds like Doug has.

Oh no! A year ago that was me in the hospital. It is not fun but it will get better and in some regards it is worse on you. You are awake and not on meds so you remember everything. Good wishes for a fast recovery.

Don't know anything about pancreatitis, though I walked around with one gallstone for a number of years. Just that one, was enough to make me direly miserable. Don't let him procrastinate or think he can tough it out. Get rid of it. Life is so much nicer after those little suckers are gone.

Get well soon to Doug, and all the best to you and your family,

Eek! :( I hope it all works out okay!
