Not sure what this is all about, but looks like the titles might be doing well.

The first part is a relationship chart, showing all the main characters for Traitor's Moon. :) And the rest is listing the books. I love the character design for Becka, she's so pretty!

Line guide:

Double red line = Parent/Child
Red line = Siblings
Green line = Teacher/Student
Blue line = Master/Servant; Lord/Retainer
Pink line = Lovers
Gold line = Friends
Dashed line = Former Lovers
Grey shading = Deceased

The animation on top is I think a preview of the next book in the series (I assume the last portion of SD? It says something about Klia....) I think the graph is showing the relationships between people. The double red line is "parent," the red line is "sibling," the green line is "student" (or something like that), the blue line is something like "employee," the pink line is "lover," the yellow line is "friend," the dashed pink line is "ex-lover." The black line is for other connections, not sure what. The pink background area is Skala'a royalty, the green background is Skala somethingorother that I can't read, the pale blue background is Aurenen, and the dark blue background is for kirnari (sorry if I forgot how to spell it). The little notes are explanatory -- I think the one under Becka says something about being a female warrior.

Starting in the top left and going left to right and top to bottom, the people pictured are: Nysander, Idrilain, Thero, Klia, Phoria, Micum, Torsin, Beka, Seregil, Alec, Nyal, Adzriel, Ulan, and I can't remember how to spell her name, but the Japanese text reads "Ameiri" which is something like Ameli? One of the characters whose name I've forgotten. :P Time to reread to prep for the new book!

Underneath the picture it looks like previews for the different books.

Sadly, my kanji isn't that good. It's a nice little ad that looks like it's about Traitor Moon, considering Torsin's in it. And if you ever wondered what your name looked like in Japanese, it's リン・フルエリン.

And I'll agree that the art is very pretty.

See, now more than ever, one of my goals while in Japan is to get to a bookstore and buy these. Even if it might be a few years before I can read them well. Beautiful art.

I'm tempted to buy them too, even if I can't really read much of it either. Because when I was over there, I seemed to recall quite a few books with art like this on the cover, that were novels, but had a few illustrations inside the book too. So I wonder if there is art for these inside the book. I'd buy them just for that!

Each of the 9 books has:

Cover art
Back cover color pic of one character
1 inside color illustration
b/w character pics

I tried to find them while I was in Japan, but none of the employees could ever understand what I was asking since I didn't know what bookstore section to ask about. I would ask about the foreign authors section and they would just look sort of confused. It was sad.

For anyone going to Japan, why not print out some of the covers, or the publisher's ad and show that to clerks?

That's an excellent idea! I wish I would have thought of it while I was there!

By the way, this has nothing to do with the current topic of conversation, but I thought I'd mention that I am going to be attending Smith College next year. I remember you talking briefly a while back about your annual trip to Smith for ConBust, and you have no idea how thrilled I am at the prospect of meeting you next Spring!

ConBust
Congratulations! Smith is an amazing place, and ConBust is a blast. Be sure to introduce yourself when you see me!

Re: ConBust
Thank you, and I will~! I'm getting really excited; Smith's classes and campus and students all seemed fantastic when I visited a few weeks ago. My Nightrunner novels are going with me to college for sure.

I would have helped, but everyone beat me to it! *grins* It does look very interesting and it's tempting to buy the books while I'm in Japan.

Hello, I'm an avid reader (turned collector, since my reading is a bit slow.. ^^;) of your books in Japanese. I always look forward to the release of a new book and its beautiful cover and inside art!

For the people who are thinking of looking for the books in Japan (and don't speak so much Japanese), books are often organized by publishing companies. Because of this, I've only seen the Nightrunners books with other C-novels, and never in the foreign authors section.

Also, smaller bookstores mostly only carry new releases. To get the older books (or find the books at all), you might have to go to a much bigger bookstore.

Of course, the easiest way is to print out the cover, but if you forget, knowing the publishing company (C-novels) and Lynn's name in katakana (リン・フルエリン) will solve most problems. Happy hunting! :D
